The Aloinopsis Schooneesii is a beautiful dark green colored succulent from South Africa. The Aloinopsis Schooneesii grows there in the dry and arid Boesman region. Because there is very little rain in the Boesman region, the Aloinopsis Schooneesii has a large underground taproot in which it stores water. This way, the Aloinopsis Schooneesii can easily survive a long dry period. The Aloinopsis Schooneesii eventually grows into a cluster of smaller rosettes.

The leaves of Aloinopsis Schooneesii feel fleshy and are dark green in color. The top of the leaves are flat and all have small gray to brown dots. The flowers appear between the leaves at the top of the plant and are yellow-brown in color. In our Netherlands, the Aloinopsis Schooneesii blooms at the end of winter.

When the Aloinopsis Schooneesii ages, the taproot forms a beautiful caudex. However, this takes many years. This succulent is often placed higher in the pot, so that the caudex also rises above the ground and is visible. The Aloinopsis Schooneesii is also suitable for a cold greenhouse or room, because this plant can withstand temperatures down to -12 °C. The requirement here is that the soil in which the Aloinopsis Schooneesii is growing is completely dried out.
