The Brighamia Insignis is a tropical plant that has the growth habit of a palm tree and is found in Hawaii. This has given the Brighamia Insignis the nickname Hawaiian Palm. The new leaves are formed from the head of the plant. The lower leaves in turn fall off. These then yellow and dry out. When they do this, it is best to break them off. Then the characteristic palm tree trunk is formed.

The new leaves are formed all year round. Shedding of the leaves occurs in phases or under strongly varying conditions. Then a lot of leaves are shed at once. If this happens, don't be alarmed. Often all leaves have grown again within a few weeks.

The trunk of the Brighamia Insignis, like a cactus, is a water reservoir in which water is stored for drier periods. If the Brighamia Insignis is happy with you, it will bloom in the fall. The flowers are white-yellow in color and grow on a stem from the head of the plant.

The Brighamia Insignis bee is extinct in the wild in Hawaii. Only a few plants still grow there and it has become a protected plant. At first it was thought that the Brighamia Insignis was completely extinct. When another site was later discovered, a rescue plan was set up for these plants. It is now grown in culture on a large scale and the plant is therefore preserved.

Important: This plant may shed leaves upon arrival due to shipping. This is a kind of self-defense mechanism of the plant to adapt to the new environment. Soon after this plant has lost its leaves, it will produce new leaves that are adapted to the new conditions.
