Information

The genus Euphorbia comes in many different species and shapes. This includes a number of Euphorbia plants that form a caudex, such as the Euphorbia Stellata. In nature, the Euphorbia Stellata can be found in South Africa in areas around the city of Port Elizabeth and the village of Peddie.

What makes this Euphorbia so unique are the tentacles that grow from the top of the caudex. The tentacles of the Euphorbia Stellata can grow up to 15 cm long and 1.5 cm wide. The edges have small brown spines. In winter and spring, small yellow flowers may appear between the spikes. These flowers give the tentacles a beautiful yellow edge.

Due to its caudex, this Euphorbia Stellata can withstand long periods of drought. The caudex functions as a natural water storage. In nature, the caudex of the Euphorbia Stellata is almost completely underground.
