The Leuchtenbergia Principles is a special cactus with a unique appearance. You don't come across them every day either. In nature, this cactus grows in a large area in northern and central Mexico. Here the Leuchtenbergia principles grows in desert-like areas in lime-sand soil and between limestone cliffs.

The Leuchtenbergia principles is the only plant in the genus Leuchtenbergia. It also has a unique appearance, as if you combine a cactus with long spines with an agave species. The Leuchtenbergia principle has a green to blue-green color. Her tubercles are extremely elongated and have three sides. Her long brown-yellow to dark brown spines grow at the end. These are very flexible and can grow up to 20 cm long.

In addition to the part that you see above the ground, the Leuchtenbergia principals also has a large underground taproot. The Leuchtenbergia principles can store a lot of water in this root to survive a long period of drought.

The Leuchtenbergiaprinciples will bloom with us in the summer. Often at the end after a warm period. The flower appears from between the upper tubercles and has a bright yellow color. It can sometimes be a real challenge to get this cactus to bloom. They also do not normally bloom every year. Our experience is that a warm summer and extra water during, for example, a heat wave in the summer can promote flowering.
