Information

The Mammillaria senilis is a beautiful cactus species that occurs naturally in the Mexican states of Chihuahua, Jalisco and Sinaloa. Here this cactus grows on rock slopes in arid areas and pine forest. It occurs at altitudes of 2400 to 2800 meters.

The Mammillaria senilis has many small bright white spines. The ends of the spines are curved. This makes it easy to snag it. The cactus itself has a dark green color. But this is almost invisible due to its many white spines. When the Mammillaria senilis grows larger, many new cacti grow from its sides. This gives you a nice full cluster of this cactus.

The Mammillaria senilis is an easy bloomer. She often does this several times in the spring and summer. Bright red flowers grow from the head and side of the cactus and remain open for a number of days. The red flowers in combination with its white spines make this Mammillaria senilis a real eye-catcher.

When this cactus overwinters in completely dry soil, Mammillaria senilis can tolerate temperatures down to -10 °C.
