Information

The Nananthus vittatus is a nice succulent plant that occurs naturally in the southeast of the Northern Cape province in South Africa. Here the Nananthus vittatus grows on hilly plains in loamy soil.

The Nananthus vittatus produces dark green leaves with three surfaces that meet at the end of the leaf. The leaves grow in pairs opposite each other. Each pair rotates 90 degrees. The Nananthus vittatus is very popular for its caudex stem. This is caused by the fact that it produces thick tap roots. These taproots then slowly come up into the pot or the plant can be potted higher so that it is visible. The Nananthus vittatus uses its taproots to store water. In nature where this plant occurs, little water falls. This way, it can survive a long period of drought with the stored water in its taproot.

The Nananthus vittatus is an easy bloomer. If she is happy with you, she will bloom in the winter. Her bright yellow flower grows between the top two leaves.
