Information

The Pachypodium namaquanum is a popular and rare species that you do not often encounter. This Pachypodium grows in nature in the Richtersveld area in South Africa and southern Namibia. Here it grows in rocky desert areas. Very little rain falls in these areas, only in the winter periods. In summer, temperatures there can reach 50 degrees. The Pachypodium namaquanum really grows in nature under extreme conditions.

The Pachypodium namaquanum makes a thick fleshy stem. She can store a lot of water in this to get through a dry period. The trunk is covered with many sharp spines. This Pachypodium produces dark green leaves at the top of the trunk. The leaves have a wavy edge along the sides. When the plant goes dormant, it loses all its leaves. This is part of her rest period. But fortunately, when she starts growing again, she quickly makes new ones.

If the Pachypodium namaquanum is happy with you, it will bloom in the summer. She usually only does this at a height of 30 cm. Its yellow flowers appear at the top of the stem.
