Information

The Piaranthus geminatus var. foetidus is a distinct carrion flower species that occurs naturally in the Western and Eastern Cape provinces of South Africa.

The Piaranthus geminatus var. foetidus produces small, stocky trunks that have a green to brown-green color. The trunks branch from the side and this is how this Piaranthus forms small clusters.

When the Piaranthus geminatus var. foetidus is doing well, it will usually bloom at the beginning of autumn. The flowers are usually around 2cm in size and often appear in large numbers from the sides of the stems. The flowers have a star shape with 5 petals. The petals have a light yellow color with brown patterns on them. The heart of the flower has an orange-yellow color. The flowers of the Piaranthus geminatus var. foetidus are pollinated by bluebottles. To attract them, the flowers of this Pairanthus produce a disgusting smell of a combination of rotting flesh, feces and sweat. So hold your breath when you are enjoying these flowers.
