Information

The Glandulicactus mathssonii is a beautiful robust cactus species. In nature, this cactus occurs in the American state of Texas. Here the Glandulicactus mathssonii grows in dry grasslands and desert areas.

The Glandulicactus mathssonii has a dark green color and makes wavy ribs that grow along each other. Woolly areoles grow on top of the ribs from which its thick, sturdy spines grow. The spines have a light brown color and a curved end. The new spines on top of the cactus first have a dark red color. Later they color back to the light brown color. The Glandulicactus mathssonii is a slow growing cactus. After many years it grows to a size of 15 cm high by 8 cm wide.

The Glandulicactus mathssonii will bloom with us in the spring. Beautiful flowers grow from the head of the cactus. The petals have a dark purple center stripe with a light pink outer edge.

When this cactus overwinters in completely dry soil, the Glandulicactus mathssonii can tolerate temperatures down to -12 °C for a short time.
