The Opuntia Azurea is a beautiful cactus species. In nature, it occurs over a large area in Mexico and the US. Here this Opuntia grows in dry areas with lots of sun.

The Opuntia Azurea produces large blue-green discs with several long brown spines attached to them. If you give this Opuntia a nice sunny spot, its leaves will turn a beautiful purple. This purple glow starts on top of the leaf and slowly moves down over the leaf. Sometimes the entire leaf is purple. This makes the Opuntia Azurea a real eye-catcher.

The Opuntia Azurea can grow into a large cactus tree. In nature, cacti up to 3 meters high and 5 meters wide have been found. If the Opuntia Azurea is happy with you, it will bloom in the summer. This Opuntia always does this very exuberantly. Many flowers appear on top of the leaves. The flowers grow to 5-6 cm in size and have a yellow color with a red heart. They also emit a slightly sweet scent to attract insects.
