The Echinocereus viridiflorus is a beautiful compact cactus species that occurs naturally in the southern states of the United States and the Mexican states of Chihuahua and Coahuila.

The Echinocereus viridiflorus has a dark green color. The spines have a light brown to white color. The new spines on top of the cactus have a reddish-brown color. These will later turn into the light color.

The Echinocereus viridiflorus is a slow grower and eventually grows to a height of 20 cm with a diameter of 6-8 cm. The Echinocereus viridiflorus remains a solitary cactus for a long time, but when this cactus gets older, it will occasionally form a side shoot. This way, after many years you will get a beautiful cluster of these cacti.

The Echinocereus viridiflorus will bloom with us in the spring. The flowers grow from the side of the cactus. First a small gray fluffy fluff appears there. The flower will later grow from this. The flowers have a yellow color and are approximately 3.5 cm in size. The plant in the photo is blooming, but because it is seasonal, it will not be delivered to you blooming all year round.

When this cactus overwinters in completely dry soil, the Echinocereus viridiflorus subs. chloranthus tolerates temperatures down to -15 °C.
