Information

The Ferocactus Pilosus is a beautiful and robust cactus species. This cactus occurs naturally in a large area in Mexico. Here this cactus grows on dry plains and hilly areas with rocks.

The Ferocactus Pilosus has a dark green color. The spines are red in color on the upper part. They turn brown on the bottom of the cactus. Characteristic of the Ferocactus Pilosus are the white hairs that grow between the spines. The Ferocactus Pilosus is an average grower and likes a very sunny place. She was given the second name Pilosus because when she grows older, she changes from a spherical shape to a columnar shape. This cactus can grow to a size of 4 meters high and a diameter of 40 cm over many decades.

The Ferocactus Pilosus will bloom with us in the summer. It is not an easy cactus to get into flowering. For this it must have a really sunny place and a diameter of 20 cm or more. The flowers appear on top of the cactus and are a bright orange-red color. The flower buds of the Ferocactus Pilosus are a local delicacy for Mexicans. They sugar and fry the flower buds.
