The Scilla Socialis is a beautiful caudex species that should not be missing in your collection. It is a very easy plant with a unique appearance. In nature, the Scilla Socialis occurs in two locations in South Africa. In KwaZulu-Natal and in the Eastern Cape province. Here the Scilla Socialis grows in sandy areas where rain falls regularly in the summer.

The Scilla Socialis has a caudex in which it can store water for a long dry period. Usually this caudex is formed by dried leaves. As with other bulb species, the caudex of the Scilla Socialis regularly splits. This gives you beautiful groups of Scilla Socialis plants.

The tops of leaves of the Scilla Socialis are silver-green in color with dark green dots on them. The underside of the leaves are purple to dark red in color. This gives the Scilla Socialis its characteristic appearance.
