General information Stenocactus multicostatus

The Stenocactus Multicostatus is a beautiful ball cactus that you can keep looking at. This cactus is characterized by the large number of thin ribs. In nature, the Stenocactus Multicostatus can be found in Mexico in the states of Coahuila, Chihuahua and Durango. Here this cactus grows in dry grasslands. During a prolonged dry period, the Stenocactus Multicostatus can partially withdraw into the ground.

Adult plants of the Stenocactus Multicostatus can form as many as 50 to 100 ribs. This number is variable. Cacti of this species have even been bred to have up to 150 ribs. Not only the ribs, but also the flowers of the Stenocactus Multicostatus are real eye-catchers. The flowers of this cactus appear in the spring from the head of the cactus and are white to white-pink in color with purple stripes.
